Mercedes-Benz GLB 2024: The Mercedes-Benz GLB-class debuted in 2020, filling a gap between the subcompact GLA and the compact GLC and becoming the smallest SUV on the market to provide a third row of seats, although one best suited to youngsters. The GLB will get a mild facelift in 2024, with minor stylistic changes, better infotainment, and an electrified powertrain lineup.

Mercedes-Benz GLB 2024 Overview

Life is full of choices, and Mercedes-Benz’s two subcompact crossovers reflect an endless one: beauty or utility. The GLB class is the boxier version of the GLA class, but whether this makes it smarter or dorkier depends on personal preferences. Both Mercedes-Benzes are equipped with the same 221-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive.

All-wheel drive is available, as are various extras that may transform the cabin from business to Club RGB with an available ambient lighting package that includes lighted vents. Despite its lack of horsepower, reserved for the AMG GLB35, which is examined separately, the GLB-class has superb driving dynamics that make it comfortable and enjoyable.

The GLB’s square rear end provides it a cargo-space advantage over the hotter GLA class, and it can even be ordered with an optional and extremely snug third row. The GLB isn’t a mini G-Class but a viable alternative to other small luxury crossovers like the BMW X2, Audi Q3, and Lexus NX.

Price

Mercedes-Benz GLB 2024 SUV is offered in two engine-transmission combinations. The 2024 GLB starts at ₹60.80 lakh for the 200 model, which has a 1.3L turbo petrol engine and 7-speed DCT transmission. The 220d 4Matic model costs ₹67.80 lakh (ex-showroom) and features a 1.9L turbo diesel engine with an 8-speed transmission.

What’s New for 2024?

Mercedes has updated the GLB class for 2024, adding new bumpers, headlights, taillights, and an enhanced interior. The previously optional 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is now standard with Mercedes’ most recent software. Mercedes has also incorporated the AMG Line interior as standard, complete with a heated steering wheel. The GLB’s new 48-volt hybrid-assist electrical system, hidden beneath all the new metal and leather, can potentially increase the GLB’s EPA estimates.

Interior Updates

Inside, the two 10.3-inch panels that were previously part of the Premium package are now standard, representing a significant improvement over the 7.0-inch screens on the 2023 base model. The GLB now runs the most recent version of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system, enables wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes an additional USB-C connector and enhanced USB charging capabilities.

Mercedes also includes more standard features, such as automated headlights, a parking package with a 360-degree camera vision, and a Nappa leather steering wheel. The AMG Line package now includes a heated steering wheel for the first time in the GLB model.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The GLB’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A 48-volt hybrid system is new in 2024, although the overall output stays unchanged. The engine is combined with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. While we haven’t tested the new 48-volt system in the GLB, the previous all-wheel-drive GLB clocked a 6.0-second sprint to 60 mph without it. We didn’t find the GLB250 to be particularly sporty, but its ride and handling are adequate for an SUV of this size.

Infotainment and Connectivity

While the GLB class lacks a significant quantity of basic interior equipment, it compensates with its infotainment and technological offerings. Every GLB250 comes standard with two 12.3-inch monitors for driving information and enjoyment. There are several options for connecting your phone to the GLB250, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB-C connections, and Bluetooth.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The GLB class comes standard with cruise control, active brake aid, and adaptive braking, while optional safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and active blind-spot help. For more information on the GLB-class crash test results, go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. The key safety elements are:

•Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
•Available lane departure warning with lane-keeping assistance.
•Available adaptive cruise control.

Under the hood

Mercedes-Benz GLB 2024 turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four gains a 48-volt hybrid system, with the belt-driven starter-generator providing an extra 13 horsepower in certain situations to aid acceleration or allow the vehicle to coast with the engine off. The design also smoothes the start/stop system and recovers energy while braking to recharge both the 48-volt and 12-volt batteries. Peak output remains the same at 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

The fast Mercedes-AMG GLB35 receives similar upgrades for 2024, with new external lights, a redesigned AMG Performance steering wheel, and the same enhancements to infotainment and phone connectivity. The turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder still produces 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, but it also includes a 48-volt hybrid system with the same 13-hp increase.

The AMG GLB35 is also available with new 19- and 20-inch wheel styles. The 2024 GLB-class will hit showrooms later this year, with prices expected to rise slightly from the 60 lakh base price of the 2024 65 lakhs.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Mercedes-Benz GLB 2024 has comparable warranty coverage, but it does not have the same gratis planned maintenance program as the X1 or the Jaguar E-Pace.

•The limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles.

•The powertrain warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles.

•No free planned maintenance.

Conclusion

Mercedes has unveiled a redesigned seven-seater GLB SUV for 2024. It receives slight stylistic tweaks, mostly to the bumpers and smoked-out headlights, as well as altered signatures in the LED taillights. Additional standard features for the SUV include cordless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a 360-degree camera. It also receives revised powertrain options, and the petrol lineup is now electric. Powertrains vary by market, but we believe the GLA will continue to use its current powertrains in India and may return after its worldwide introduction.
