Few SUVs can match the 2024 Hyundai Palisade’s near-perfect balance of usefulness, value, and luxury, so it made our 2024 Editors’ Choice list. It shares its underpinnings with the excellent Kia Telluride but has a distinct appearance.
All Palisades are equipped with a smooth-running 3.8-liter V-6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission; all-wheel drive is optional—otherwise, the Palisade drives the front wheels. While not as exciting to drive as the Mazda CX-90, the Palisade’s on-road behavior is serene and relaxed, making it an excellent choice for long-distance travel. Its high-class interior has premium finishes and three comfy rows of seats. Hyundai has incorporated numerous connectivity and convenience elements throughout the interior, making everyone feel at home.
What’s New for 2024?
A new top specification Calligraphy Night Edition trim joins the Palisade lineup in 2024, with blacked-out exterior trim, distinctive black wheels, black roof rails, and a black leather interior. This year, the Hyundai Palisade will only see a few small tweaks: rear-side window shades are now standard on the SE trim level, while ambient interior lighting is added to the Limited. The XRT now comes with dual-zone front and single-zone rear automated temperature control.
Price
Hyundai Palisade is an SUV. It is set to launch in India in July 2025. Palisade will cost between ₹ 40.00 – 50.00 Lakh in India. It competes against Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner Legender, and Toyota Fortuner.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Palisade is powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 engine and comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine’s 291 horsepower gives ample acceleration, and the Palisade’s transmission can be manually switched using steering-wheel-mounted paddles if you like a little more driver involvement. The gearbox shifts well on its own, however when ascending hills, the ratios are shuffled around.
Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available on the SE, SEL, and Limited trim levels; it is standard on the top-tier Calligraphy. All Palisades come standard with a gearbox cooler, trailer pre-wiring, and sway control, and can tow up to 5000 pounds with the dealer-installed trailer hitch.
Our test drive of a fully loaded Calligraphy model around Asheville, North Carolina, highlighted the Palisade’s smooth ride and quiet cabin; we even tried some little off-roading and were pleased that the large SUV can handle terrain beyond what you’ll find in the urban jungle. During our testing, our all-wheel-drive XRT test vehicle ran from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and stopped from 70 mph in 161 feet.
Hyundai Palisade Fuel Economy
According to the EPA, the front-wheel-drive Palisade gets 8.1 km/l city and 26 mpg highway. When fitted with all-wheel drive, the Palisade gets 8.1 km/l in the city and 10.2 km/l on the interstate. Our all-wheel-drive SEL model averaged only 9.8 km/l on our 200-mile highway test route, despite its 10.2 km/l rating. Visit the EPA website to learn more about the Palisade’s fuel efficiency.
Hyundai Palisade Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Eight passengers can fit in the SE and SEL trims, while only seven can fit in the Limited and Calligraphy because of the second-row captain’s seats. In any case, all three rows provide plenty of space for occupants. A button on the second row allows the seat to be moved forward, making it easier to reach the third row. While the Limited and Calligraphy come standard, the SEL has the option of power-folding the second and third rows of seats. Although there is less road noise, wind noise still gets through the doors. When the last two rows are folded down, the Palisade can fit 33 pieces of carry-on luggage; the cargo area, with all seats folding, measures 86 cubic feet.
With the second row erect and the third row folded, storage is 46 cubic feet. With the third row in use, the volume is reduced to a mere 18 cubes. However, there is space underneath the cargo floor for storing muddy or wet objects. The compartments in the doors are small, but there is adequate storage within and below the central console.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All trim levels come standard with a 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, in-dash navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. There are up to seven USB ports available, and two Bluetooth devices can be connected simultaneously. When fitted with Hyundai’s Blue Link app service, the Palisade can be locked, unlocked, and started remotely using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
On top of the baseline safety equipment, almost any sophisticated safety system can be installed at higher trim levels. To learn more about the Palisade’s crash test results, go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. The key safety elements are:
• Automatic emergency braking that is standard and has pedestrian detection.
•Standard lane departure warning with lane-keeping assistance.
•Standard adaptive cruise control and semi-autonomous driving mode
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Hyundai’s warranty is among the finest in the industry, with the first owner receiving 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage. The company also now provides gratis regular maintenance, outperforming mainstream competitors such as Toyota.
•The limited warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles.
•The powertrain warranty covers ten years or 100,000 kilometers.
•Maintenance is included Palisade for 3 years or 36,000 miles.
