Engine, Transmission & Performance
Under the CR-V’s erect grille sits a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower. It can be matched with front- or all-wheel drive and a CVT. Standard on the LX, EX, and EX-L versions is this configuration. The nonhybrid EX-L took 8.1 seconds on our test track to reach 60 mph, which was a little slow for its class and a few seconds slower than the hybrid version. Under severe acceleration, the engine additionally makes a loud drone noise due to the transmission.
Every CR-V has hill-descent control, which helps control the small SUV’s speed at low speeds on slick or steep drops. The majority of versions come with a set of 18-inch wheels. Even if it doesn’t have the thrilling handling qualities of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Mazda CX-50, the new CR-V nevertheless has enough personality to keep things interesting and a comfortable ride.
Interior, Comfort & Cargo
The air vents are neatly hidden behind a honeycomb-textured cover that spans the majority of the dash, highlighting the CR-V’s elegant interior design. A partially digital gauge cluster including an analog speedometer and a 7.0-inch display that lets the driver flip between several informational menus is framed by the steering wheel. Honda claims that the new CR-V has a better driving posture and that the front seats are made to reduce driver tiredness on lengthy trips. A sizable center console bin sits between the front-seat occupants, and the rear seats are reclining, offering 0.6 inches more rear legroom than the current CR-V. When the load floor is adjusted to its lowest level, there is 39 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row.
Infotainment System & Connectivity
On the LX and EX model versions of the CR-V, a 7.0-inch touchscreen controls the infotainment system. The configuration includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to physical volume and tuning knobs. The 9.0 inch touchscreen on the EX-L supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Although there is no tuning knob on the larger screen, there is a volume knob to go along with the integrated navigation system, two USB-C outlets for rear-seat passengers, and wireless smartphone charging.
Safety features
Every CR-V from Honda comes with an abundance of standard driver assistance technologies. The small SUV now includes traffic sign recognition, a backseat reminder, and a driver attention monitor in addition to the already standard blind-spot monitoring. Visit the websites of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for additional details regarding the CR-V’s crash test results.
